The Sacred Valley on Market Day
On market days in Pisac, Andean villages still come down to trade much as they always have. There's a way to watch without becoming part of the show.
The Pisac market is known for its tourist stalls, but behind the square, the section where local growers still barter potato and corn varieties is still very much alive. The program takes you there early.
The valley's terraced fields, over 3,000 metres up, are a piece of Inca-era agricultural engineering — each level has its own microclimate, and they're still farmed on the same logic today.
Altitude hits hard on day one, which is why the program starts by dropping into the lower valley rather than Cusco itself. By the time your body adjusts, the view has already done most of the distracting.
